The prologue of Alta Via Stage Race, which takes place entirely on a dirt track, is a real anticipation of what awaits the competitors during the week: beech woods, streams to ford, ridge paths that allow you to embrace in a single glance the peaks and the sea, technical, severe and adrenaline-pumping descents.
The start is in Faie, at 550 m above sea level, at the beginning of a dirt road that the competitors will reach after a short transfer with shuttles made available by the organization.
Shortly after the start, the road climbs, first crossing a splendid beech forest and then a beautiful grassy plateau, from which you can enjoy a priceless view of the coast and the villages of Cogoleto and Varazze.
Once near the Pratorotondo Refuge, located on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri at about 1.100 m above sea level, turn right towards the sea and take the Pigo trail: a spectacular natural path, very technical and scenic, which dive into Cogoleto with a breathtaking descent characterized by an alternation of rock steps, challenging stretches of stone and very steep passages made of bends and counter-bends.
The timed trial ends at the end of the dirt road, in Sciarborasca. Competitors will be able to reach the stage village with a short downhill transfer on an asphalted road.
